The Black Keys‘ frontman Dan Auerbach has confirmed that the rock duo are ready to get back on stage, now that his bandmate Patrick Carney has almost fully recovered from the shoulder injury which saw the pair cancel their Turn Blue Australian tour and headline slot at Bluesfest 2015.
In a recent interview with NME, Auerbach said Carney has spent a lot of time trying to recuperate. “We have a bunch of gigs set for the rest of the year,” Auerbach said. “[Carney] says he feels good. He’s been doing his rehab this whole time. It’s like a full time job trying to recuperate from that.”
In late March, The Black Keys cancelled the Australian leg of their Turn Blue World Tour, including their appearance at Byron Bay Bluesfest. The cancellation followed Carney’s injury, which was sustained in January while he was body-surfing in the Caribbean.
While the band’s Aussie fans were disappointed by the cancellation, Auerbach has said the break has been something of a blessing.
“I wasn’t pissed off at all [about the break]. I mean, I felt bad that we had to cancel for our fans but at the same time, having a break for me personally was great,” he said. “It was really nice to spend a lot of time hanging out at home. It was really good!”
When asked if the duo’s upcoming shows in Europe and North America would be stripped back because of Carney’s injury, Auerbach said, “No, if that was ever the case we wouldn’t play the show.”
The Black Keys’ next show will be in Spain on 28th May. Now that they’re ready and rested, let’s hope it’s not too long until they make their long-awaited return down under.
