Garage rockers The Black Lips have already been announced on the lineups for the upcoming Falls and Southbound Festivals and today the band have confirmed that they’ll be also making headline sideshow appearances in Sydney and Melbourne in January 2015.
After they finish up their duties on the festival circuit, the boys will play Melbourne’s Hi-Fi on Tuesday, 6th January and then head to the stage of Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on Wednesday, 7th January.
It’s been an epic few years for the Atlanta rockers. Last year, after a northern hemisphere spring and summer running the usual festival circuit in North America and Europe, the Lips embarked on an extensive tour of the Middle East playing to crowds in Cairo, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and Cyprus.
Until that tour, the last known American band to tour in Egypt was The Grateful Dead in 1978. Director Bill Cody chronicled the band’s voyage in a documentary named Kids Like You & Me, the trailer for which you can watch below.
On their Australian return, the band will bring tunes from their latest record Underneath the Rainbow, which was produced in part by The Black Keys‘ Patrick Carney. Sydney support will be provided by Straight Arrows and Destiny 3000 and joining The Black Lips in Melbourne will be the Frowning Clouds and Steve Miller Band.
