Brisbane four piece The Cairos have announced they will be parting ways with bass player Reuben Schafer.
“After many many flights, highways, hotels and friends floors we are sad to announce that our good friend and bass player Reuben Schafer will no longer be a part of The Cairos,” wrote the band in a Facebook post.
“Unfortunately there were too many conflicting views and beliefs which began to jeopardize [sic] our working relationship,” they continue.
While the previous triple j Unearthed winners didn’t elaborate on what those conflicting views were in relation to, they added that Schafer continues to be a close friend and that they are “grateful for all his contributions to the band over the years”.
“Reuben will no doubt be popping up in many bands the near future and we wish him the best in all his endeavors [sic],” they conclude.
Schafer is the same Cairos band-member who spent over 24 hours held in immigration in Nepal, under the guard of armed military men, when he lost his passport during the band’s tour “somewhere between Kunming and Kathmandu”.
With a little help from the Australian embassy, they managed to get everything back in track, and even made a music video (below) out of the whole debacle.
The Cairos unveiled their debut album Dream of Reason last year. They haven’t yet announced who will replace Schafer on bass duties.
