Overnight, Metallica revealed that they’ll be reissuing their seminal self-titled album, otherwise known as The Black Album, for its 30th anniversary.
The reissue, titled The Metallica Blacklist, features a massive list of covers of songs from the album by a huge variety of artists from different genres. And, amazingly, Australia’s very own pub rock icons The Chats have found themselves as one of the lucky acts chosen to deliver their rendition of a Metallica classic.
The Chats will be covering Metallica’s ‘Holier Than Thou’ for the special release, and we’re stoked to hear how they’ll reimagine the beloved deep cut. They won’t be the only act offering a cover of this song, however – Biffy Clyro, PUP, OFF! and Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor will all be delivering their own renditions as well.
Each of the 53 collaborators (!!!) involved in the album will be donating all proceeds from their respective covers to a charity of their own choosing. The Chats revealed their chosen charities on social media, opting for Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation and The North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency.
The Metallica Blacklist is set to arrive on Friday, 10th September. Other contributors to the album include St. Vincent, Royal Blood, Mac Demarco, Rina Sawayama, Phoebe Bridgers and more.
We got our first taste of the album last night with Miley Cyrus‘ take on ‘Nothing Else Matters’, which featured the likes of Elton John, WATT, Yo-Yo Ma, Red Hot Chilli Peppers‘ Chad Smith and Metallica’s own Robert Trujillo.
