The Cult will return to Australia in November 2024, marking their first tour here in over eight years. The English hard-rock band have added the Australian dates to their 8424 world tour, which celebrates 40 years since their formation. A full run of tour dates, as well as ticketing information, can be accessed below.
The band were last in Australia circa 2016, touring theatres across the country in support of their 10th studio album Hidden City. Since then, the band have released its follow-up – 2022’s Under the Midnight Sun – and brought in two new members in bassist Charlie Jones and keyboardist Mike Mangan. The Cult have undergone extensive line-up changes throughout their career, with only vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy serving as the mainstays.
The Cult – ‘She Sells Sanctuary’
The Cult first toured Australia in 1987, on the back of their breakthrough third album Electric. They returned in early 1995 as part of that year’s Big Day Out line-up, alongside Ministry, Primal Scream and Silverchair. The band split up later that year, but reconvened between 1999 and 2002 before reuniting permanently circa 2006. The band’s third tour ultimately took place in 2010 on their Love Live world tour, over 15 years after their last Australian appearance.
