A new fundraising and political awareness event, Rock The Gate, will take place in Sydney this November and today organisers have announced its first lineup, led by the likes of The Herd, Tex Perkins And The Dark Horses and Pete Murray.
The Rock The Gate event hopes to give critical voice to Lock The Gate, the alliance behind Australia’s anti-fracking movement. The campaign is personally endorsed by Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney, who are active in the fight against fracking and coal seam gas mining.
Rock The Gate will also feature performances by Ash Grunwald, Blue King Brown‘s Natalie Pa’apa’a, Declan Kelly who will perform his Diesel n’ Dub Midnight Oil tribute album, plus visiting US artists and vocal supporters of the anti-fracking movement, Nahko of Nahko & Medicine For The People and Trevor Hall.
The event will take place at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Sunday, 23rd November. Organisers say they will soon announce the event’s full program featuring comedians, indigenous dancers, slam poets, messages from community members affected by the fracking industry, as well as even more artists from an eclectic mix of genres. They will play five venues and numerous cafes and businesses surrounding The Enmore.
All ticket proceeds for Rock The Gate will go directly to the Lock The Gate movement. For more information on exactly what fracking and coal seam gas mining entail, as well as the story behind Lock The Gate, head to the campaign’s official website.
