In keeping with their reputation for showcasing the best up-and-coming live talent in the country with a strictly ‘friends of friends’ policy, the line-up for The Hills Are Alive 2014 has just been announced and it is looking once again like being a pretty damn-special event, for those eligible to attend that is.
Line-up highlights include Newtown’s psychedelic/roots/pop outfit Sticky Fingers, the much-hyped Melbourne producer Fractures, hip hop princess on-the-rise Tkay Maidza and hauntingly fragile Perth folk singer James Teague. Fifteen acts have been announced so far and word has it there are still a few more to come.
Now in its fifth year, The Hills Are Alive is a two-day boutique camping and music gathering set in the beautifully picturesque rolling hills of South Gippsland, about an hour and a half out of Melbourne. Taking ‘exclusivity’ to another level, to be able to attend you need to be invited by a friend who has attended previously or by one of the performers themselves. So if you don’t currently fit that criteria, it’s time to start making some new friends.
In the past few years The Hills Are Alive has featured Vance Joy, Alpine, Saskwatch, Remi, Courtney Barnett, DZ Deathwrays, New Navy, Battleships and many more breakthrough local artists. The 2014 festival will take place from the 29th-30th March. For the lucky few in possession of the secret Farmer’s password, see the The Hills Are Alive website for ticket information.
