Swedish rockers The Hives have apologised to anyone who was offended after they dedicated their song Tick Tick Boom to the people of Boston during a show at the city’s TD Garden on 5th December, where the band acted as support for popstar Pink. The American city was the location of two bomb attacks during the Boston marathon in April this year, which resulted in three deaths and over 250 injuries.
Hives frontman Pelle Almqvist introduced the song by saying, “This song’s for everyone in Boston. It’s about stuff blowing up. It’s called ‘Tick, Tick, Boom’.” Now, taking to the band’s Facebook page, Almqvist has said:
About last night: I wanted to dedicate a song to the Boston crowd because they had been so great throughout the show, and unfortunately Tick Tick Boom was the next song in the set. The tragic Boston Marathon bombing never once crossed my mind while on stage, and of course it should have. My most sincere apologies to the people of Boston for this unintentional but serious mistake.
The Hives were recently announced alongside Beady Eye and Deftones as co-replacements for Blur at the 2014 Big Day Out, after the iconic English band pulled out of the festival.
