The Holy Soul + Bowerbirds Split 7″ Single on Infidelity (Plus Gig Dates)

Bowerbirds from Melbourne and The Holy Soul from Sydney have been massive fans of each others’ work for a while now. Joining that fan club is the legendary Infidelity Recordings label (Dan Kelly, Devastations, The Dirtbombs) which is releasing a double A sided LIMITED EDITION (200 copies only) 7” single on Monday March 30th 2009.

The double A side single is the first taste of Bowerbirds’ anticipated debut album and the first taste of The Holy Soul’s second album. (Their first is called ‘Sign of the Triangle’.)

The bands will play four shows together in Sydney and Melbourne to launch the release.

7″ Split Release date: Mon 30th March
SIDE A ‘That’s All’ (THE HOLY SOUL)
SIDE A ‘Give It’ (BOWERBIRDS)

Bowerbirds

Bowerbirds have both form and intent. In their first year together they have released two 7” singles: ‘Ivy Climbing’ and ‘Angel of Sorrow’ and received massive Rage airplay for their video to Ivy Climbing. They have quietly recorded a debut album and played countless gigs in their hometown of Melbourne building up a fanbase who love their swagger and power. This trip to Sydney is just their second.

Fronted by Liam Linley on vocals, with driving force Phil Gionfriddo on guitar (Dynamo, Spencer. P. Jones & The Escape Committee) and powered by one of the best rhythm sections in Australia Kit Warhurst and Paul Maybury (Rocket Science), this group is the real deal.

‘Give It’ is the first taste of their debut album and is a great, upbeat, swaggering stomper.

The Holy Soul

The Holy Soul are fresh from an acclaimed February stint as backing band for legendary Can singer Damo Suzuki. The sold out Sydney gig saw them supported by Mick Turner (Dirty 3) and Jeffrey Wegener (Laughing Clowns). In Melbourne they were joined onstage by Dan Luscombe (Drones/Blackeyed Susans).

The Holy Soul recently finished work on their second LP ‘Damn You, Ra’, which features guest contributions from Ralph Carney (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello), Loene Carmen, Kym-Louise Barton (Exiles) and Rui Pereira (Drones, Gutterville Splendour Six). It will be the first Holy Soul LP to feature the contributions of new drummer Kate Wilson (The Laurels, ex redsunband), and Jon Hunter (Creeks, Delirium Tremens). The band toured Europe with Mudhoney in 2006 on the back of the EP ‘Love Has Left The City Limits’ and the LP ‘Sign of the Triangle’.

The ultra catchy ‘That’s All’ harkens back to the band’s early garage rock recordings, though this time around there’s a distinctive Velvet Underground/La Monte Young-style droning piano; a small taste of some of the experimentation found on their forthcoming LP.
