Guys, Lip$ha isn’t happening.
After pop star Ke$ha featured on psych-rock veterans The Flaming Lips’ recent collaborative album The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends, it seemed like a full collaborative album – tentatively/cleverly titled Lip$ha – was in the works.
Now, Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne has taken to Twitter to confirm the demise of the Lips-Ke$ha project. “As of now …sadly there will be no Lip$ha…. I can’t say why… It is sad…,” Coyne said. He then spent a decent amount of time re-tweeting many of his disappointed fans.
Coyne told Billboard back in April that his band were already working on some new material with Ke$ha, saying, “I see a side of her that doesn’t want to worry about marketing, that doesn’t want to worry about the things that go into her being a pop star, and just make music… I think her producers will probably allow her to do some weirdo music. That’s what her and I call it: ‘I want to do some weirdo music with you!'”
So, let’s just take a moment to think about what a complete Lip$ha studio effort would have sounded like; check out their initial collaborative track below and read the tweet which spoiled it all.
