The Mary Wallopers Announce 2024 Australian Tour

Irish septet The Mary Wallopers have announced their first-ever Australian tour, with the Dandalk folk-punk act set to touch down in May 2024 for a five-date capital city jaunt. The band is currently on tour in support of their second studio album, the fittingly-titled Irish Rock & Roll.

“People of Australia,” the band said in a statement announcing the tour. “Brace yourselves, because we are coming to play you all our smelly little songs and complain about the heat.” Find all the details below.

Formed in 2019, The Mary Wallopers were an unexpected Covid-era success story. Unable to tour, the band – then a trio, consisting of brothers Charles and Andrew Hendy and Sean McKenna – gained a cult following by livestreaming their performances from the Hendys’ home studio. The livestreams caught the attention of Irish bands like Fontaines D.C. and veteran stand-up comedian Tommy Tiernan, helping to further expand the Wallopers’ profile.

In 2022, The Mary Wallopers added a further four members: bassist Róisín Barrett, accordion player Seamus Hyland, whistle/pipes player Finnian O’Connor and drummer Brendan McInerney. They released their self-titled debut album that October, which included the singles ‘Frost is All Over’, ‘Cod Liver Oil & The Orange Juice’ (a re-recording of a song from their 2019 EP, A Mouthful of The Mary Wallopers) and ‘Building Up and Tearing England Down’.

The follow-up, Irish Rock & Roll, was released last month, preceded by the release of four singles: ‘The Holy Ground’, ‘The Idler’, ‘The Blarney Stone’ and ‘Wexford’. All these and plenty more can be expected when the band hit the road across Australia in May.
