The National, recently in Australia for a number of festival appearances and side shows, have been forced to cancel shows in Asia due to the devastation wrought by the recent Japan earthquake.
Matt Berninger and his band were due to play at the Mosaic Music Festival in Singapore today (March 15) and were also scheduled to perform at the Tokyo Duo venue on March 17. Both shows have been pulled in the wake of the natural disaster.
The National made the announcement on their official website, where they have linked to the Red Cross and urge fans to give donations. A post on the band’s Twitter said, “So sad we have to cancel our shows in Singapore & Tokyo. Our thoughts & prayers are with everyone in Japan. We hope to reschedule soon…”
The National will now head to South America before returning to the US for a few shows. Then to Europe for the festival season there.
