For the first time in their 21 year existence, garage punk pioneers The Oblivians have announced they will be making their maiden voyage to Australia, with a string of east coast intimate club shows in addition to their set at the 2015 Golden Plains Festival.
The Oblivians will kick off the tour with a headline show at Newtown Social Club in Sydney on March 4th, followed by shows in Brisbane, Hobart, Geelong and a special three-night residency at Melbourne’s iconic The Tote on March 11th, 12th and 13th. For die-hard fans special three-show passes are available.
Having formed in Memphis in 1993, The Oblivians’ brand of blues-infused garage punk helped to kick-start the proliferation of new raw garage bands around the world. Aunty Meredith herself declared them as “the holy grail of modern day garage punk” and their influence can be heard today in the music of artists like Black Lips and Ty Segall.
Following a late ’90s break-up and some reunion shows, The Oblivians reunited last year for their first album since their breakup, Desperation, released on seminal LA-based label In The Red Records. See all their Australian tour dates below.
