Unless you’ve been living under a stone for the past twelve months you’d be hard pressed to deny that it’s been a storming success on all fronts for The Presets.
For the first and last time in 2009 before they hide themselves away from the world to get to work on the unenviable task of following up the colossal Apocalypso, The Presets are packing up and setting out on the road for an Australian tour. Burning up the bitumen right around our wide brown island in May and June, The Presets will do as only they know how and blow heads at every port with their now more electrifying than ever live blitzkrieg.
2008 witnessed their sophomore release, ‘Apocalypso’ leap out of the studio and straight onto the clubs, charts and airwaves, going gold in two weeks, platinum in two months and approaching triple platinum this very minute.
The singles My People (approaching double platinum), This Boy’s in Love and Talk Like That (both certified gold) worked as club anthems, crowd pleasers and radio faves alike. Accolades flew thick and fast with three ARIA artisan awards, three ARIA awards, a J Award for Album of The Year, GQ’s nod for Band of The Year and as well as two inaugural awards – Best Local Act at the Festival Awards and Record of The Year at the SMAC awards. The band had three songs in Triple J’s Hottest 100, two of which were in the Top 10.
From steamy, jam-packed intimate secret shows for MySpace and i-Tunes, to their Apocalypso tour of last June (which sold out in a matter of hours), to blazing festival appearances all over the world, The Presets live show rocketed through the stratosphere. The band’s iconic performance at the ARIA Awards, straight on the back of three months gruelling touring in the US and Europe, was the stuff TV dreams are made of.
The band’s plethora of international touring and media commitments last year meant that they simply could not keep up with the demand for Australian live performances. Announcing multiple venue shows around the country couldn’t accommodate the demand for tickets – with many cities hosting three or four consecutive shows to meet demand.
Roll on 2009…
The Presets will embark on their largest ever national tour, taking in more cities and visiting many regional centres for the first time, and wherever possible accommodate younger fans with all age shows. It truly is on for young and old.
This May/June tour signifies the closing chapter on the ‘Apocalypso’ for the band, and will be their last Australian shows in 2009, after which they will return to the studio to begin work on their third album.
Joining The Presets on the trot is extra special guests Archicture In Helsinki. The Melbourne pop mavericks are currently riding high on the success of their single That Beep. A dizzyingly catchy slice of pop, it’s lit up dancefloors, radios and tv screens across Australia and all around the world. Their electrifying live show has seen them conquer festival stages all summer with AIH’s patented blend of sweat, heart, energy and fun, and now they’re bringing the pain on the road with The Presets.
As well as Architecture In Helsinki; the lads of Van She + Wolf & Cub will also join The Presets across select dates.
