As the COVID-19 situation in America continues to worsen – somehow – the Recording Academy has announced that the 2021 Grammy Awards will not be going ahead later this month as they had (ambitiously) planned.
In a statement posted on the Recording Academy’s website, the event’s organisers revealed that the ceremony will now take place in March as Los Angeles continues to battle against the pandemic.
“After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards to be broadcast Sunday, March 14, 2021,” the statement reads.
“The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do.
“Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show.”
The ceremony was originally slated for Sunday, 31st January, with Beyoncé being the year’s most nominated artist and extending her lead as the most Grammy-nominated woman in history.
The 2021 nominations have drawn ire from artists across the board, kicking off with The Weeknd‘s complete snub from any major category that most felt like he deserved.
