The Smith Street Band have spent the majority of 2016 absolutely dominating the international stage. So, you could forgive them for pumping the breaks as the end of the year approaches.
But that’s not how Smith Street roll. Today, the band have dropped a brand new single dubbed Death To The Lads, and announced plans to see out the year with a new national tour in celebration.
Death To The Lads is the first single to be aired from what will be the band’s fourth full-length album. The rousing beers-at-the-pub track came together while the boys were zig-zagging across North America, and eventually found its way into their setlist.
“It’s mainly about growing up and changing, admitting we make mistakes and trying to improve ourselves,” says songwriter Wil Wagner.
For the video, the band dug deep, tagging the Smith Street Mums (yep, each member’s birth giver), who each had to act out a day in the shoes of their son, from waking up in the band’s share-house, to loading out the van.
Wagner says of the clip: “It was a great chance to thank and appreciate the people who have done more for us than anyone, our families. We basically wanted our mums to get to be rock stars for the day and get some credit for helping us get this far.”
To drive the single home, the band will be hitting the road with The Nation Blue, who are currently basking in the glory of their recent album and instrumental psych-trio Grim Rhythm. They’ll be sitting out one of the Melbourne shows though, where fans will be getting treated to a cameo from High Tension.
