The Stone Roses‘ frontman Ian Brown has described England’s Queen Elizabeth as “Queen Witch” during their performance at Scotland’s T in the Park festival on the weekend.
According to NME, the statement was made just as the band launched into their song Elizabeth, My Dear – similar to their recent performances at Manchester’s Heaton Park last week.
“In a similar vein to last week’s triumphant Heaton Park shows, Ian Brown took aim at the Queen before the band played ‘Elizabeth, My Dear’, with the singer calling her majesty ‘Queen witch’.”
Punters raved about The Stone Roses’ headlining slot at the Festival, with one fan, Rory MacKay, telling NME the performance was better than the Heaton Park shows last week.
“I seen them at Heaton Park but this topped it. It was a better crowd, better atmosphere, better singing and they were a better band. I’m supposed to be working, but I sneaked off to see them. I Am The Resurrection was superb.”
Fellow punter Tom Wilson said the band’s relationship looked really strong on stage. “I never thought I’d see them in my lifetime. It was unbelievable. It was incredible. Absolutely amazing… I loved how they all hugged each other at the end. They really appreciate each other.”
Former Oasis star Noel Gallagher followed in the footsteps of his brother Liam by playing just before The Stone Roses at T in the Park. Liam’s band Beady Eye (aka Oasis without Noel) supported The Stone Roses for the Heaton Park shows last week.
