New York rock titans The Strokes recently threw their support behind Democratic hopeful Bernie Sanders, performing at a rally for the Senator in Durham, New Hampshire last night.
Nestled amongst a set of favourites like ‘Someday’ and ‘New York City Cops’ along with a cover of the Talking Heads classic ‘Burning Down the House’, Julian Casablancas and co debuted a new song entitled ‘Bad Decisions’ and premiered a video for a new song called ‘At the Door’.
At the end of the performance, Casablancas (briefly) confirmed that the first new studio album from the band since 2013’s Comedown Machine was a matter of months away, saying “Album’s coming out April 10.”
Yesterday it was reported that the band had begun teasing a new project, presumably titled The New Abnormal.
“We are honored to be associated with such a dedicated, diligent, & trustworthy patriot – and fellow native New Yorker,” Casablancas said in a statement regarding the New Hampshire show. “As the only truly non-corporate candidate, Bernie Sanders represents our only chance to overthrow corporate power and help return America to democracy. This is why we support him.”
The band are, of course, not the first band to lend their support to Sanders on the campaign trail this year. A couple of weeks ago, both Bon Iver and Vampire Weekend played separate rallies in Iowa.
You can watch the full stream of the rally, including speeches by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders himself, below. The Strokes’ performance starts at around the 2:20:00 mark.
