With only a matter of days to go until their performance at Soundwave Festival and with Blink 182 on their run of Sidewaves, Punk Rock’s The Vandals, (well more specifically their record label Kung Fu Records) have announced that the band are back in the studio working on their first album since 2004, despite canning any thoughts of new material back in 2010.
The label shocked fans when they tweeted out that the band are “in the studio at this very moment putting finishing touches on new tracks.” That, I’m afraid, is all that’s known about the new material, but tracklistings and album art, and you’d hope an album title, will be announced soon.
What was seen by many as a totally outrageous lawsuit filed against the band by entertainment publication The Variety seemed to have totally crushed the passion of music from The Vandals in 2010. The issue stemmed form their 2004 album Hollywood Potato Chip, the album cover of which Variety editors deemed as a knock-off of their trademarked logo. The band apparently scrapped the plans, though years later, the original copy found its way online, and even though it wasn’t even on the band’s website, Variety held them responsible.
As of 2012 the lawsuit was settled, with the band not having to pay a cent. In one of the most punk rock moves ever, they represented themselves throughout the entire case.
The news is so big that this is the first tweet from Kung Fu Records in 12 months.
