The Weeknd has shared news that he’s started work on the follow up to his massive release After Hours. As well as that, he’s revealed it’s inspired by the coronavirus pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protests.
In a feature with tmrw magazine, The Weeknd said he has been, “More inspired and creative during the pandemic than I might normally be while on the road.
“The pandemic, the Black Lives Matter movement and the tensions of the election have mostly created a sense of gratitude for what I have and closeness with the people near me.”
The Weeknd went on to describe After Hours as the perfect way to show the industry what he can do, adding that he’s laser focused now.
“I was laser focused back then and I’m laser focused right now.
“I feel like I spent the last 10 years creating a sound and most of my career I’ve either been running away from it or duplicating it. ‘After Hours’ was the perfect piece of art for me to show my tenure in the industry.”
After Hours was released back in March of 2020. It featured landmark song ‘Blinding Lights’.
The Weeknd is slated to perform at the forthcoming Super Bowl halftime show.
