Thelma Plum Returns With Intimate New Single, ‘Nobody’s Baby’

Thelma Plum is back to bless our ears with new music. The Meanjin-born Gamilaraay Woman and beloved singer-songwriter has today shared a heartfelt new single dubbed ‘Nobody’s Baby’, which sees her reflect on a bittersweet paradox from her youth.

“Nobody’s Baby is about the intersections of girlhood and growing up,” the artist explains in a press statement. “When I was younger I was kind of forced to grow up fairly quickly and it impacted me in ways I’m only discovering now that I am an actual adult.”

She continues: “I was always wanting to make myself seem older and more mature, and always trying to prove myself. I feel sad for the younger me but I am also proud of her. It’s complicated and I didn’t necessarily understand it all until I wrote this record, in particular this song. I still don’t really understand it but maybe Nobody’s Baby will help me explain that to you, and maybe me too.”

The single comes accompanied by a stunning music video directed by Studio Antics, which you can watch up above. Set against the backdrop of an equestrian club, the clip channels vintage glamour, capturing Thelma styled in Kourh, Marta Design and Nicol & Ford, with jewellery by Immortale.

Meanwhile, her fresh press shots were snapped by fellow artist and friend, Kira Puru.

‘Nobody’s Baby’ is the first bit of new music we’ve heard from Thelma since here 2023 release ‘We Don’t Talk About It’, which followed on from her MEANJIN EP.

Fans will likely be able to catch the ARIA-winning artist performing it live at triple j’s One Night Stand festival this September.
