The question of which Aussie band will get the call-up to support AC/DC still hovers, as the Aussie leg of the band’s epic worldwide Rock Or Bust tour looms large.
But now, it seems the country’s most coveted support slot may not go to an Aussie band after all.
Word on the street – or at least, on the Sydney Morning Herald’s Sticky Carpet – is that Swedish garage rock veterans The Hives will be joining Acca Dacca for their monster trek Down Under.
Translating them to the newspaper’s old-people readership as “Sweden’s answer to the Ramones and the Easybeats”, SMH reports that The Hives are “hotly rumoured” to be rocking stadiums with Brian, Angus & co. this December.
It follows speculation that Acca Dacca had been looking to reform one of Australia’s other three biggest still-relevant rock acts – Jet, Powderfinger or Silverchair – for the tour.
But sadly that turned out to be a bit of a crock, after Powderfinger and Silverchair hosed down the claims and Jet said they were keen but AC/DC hadn’t called them yet.
Only time will tell. But there isn’t much of it left.
