Florence + The Machine, Jamie xx, Wolf Alice and Aphex Twin are among this year’s list of nominees for the prestigious Barclaycard Mercury Prize, an annual award given to the best album to come out of the United Kingdom and Ireland in the past year.
Chosen by a panel of British music critics and industry figures, this year’s nominees range from intricate IDM to alt-rock, electro-pop, punk rock and indie folk. Catch all 12 of the nominees and their respective albums, below.
Last year’s Mercury Prize saw the likes of Royal Blood, FKA twigs and Young Fathers battle it out for the crown, with Young Fathers ending up victorious.
Previous winners of the award have included acts like James Blake, PJ Harvey, The xx, Pulp, Portishead and Arctic Monkeys. This year’s winner will be announced on 20th November, and according to The Independent, Mercury Prize organisers are hoping Aphex Twin (real name Richard James) will perform at the awards ceremony.
