No matter how heavy/technical/electronic you like your music now, you’re a damn liar if you say that you didn’t enjoy a bit of TLC back in the day. Great news for everyone then, as the world’s most successful all-girl group of all time, worth 65 million sales under their belt, have announced that the surviving members will be furthering the brand, with a new release.
According to the L.A. Times, the two living members, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins have lent credibility to the idea that the pair will be appearing at the 2012 Mobo Awards in Liverpool on Saturday to personally accept the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. Clearly caught up in the milestone, Chilli and T-Boz have confirmed that they will be following up 2002’s 3D.
3D was released only three months after the death of third member Lisa ‘Left-Eye’ Lopez, who died after a car crash in Honduras.
When asked the very good question of how they think TLC’s brand of pop will fit into what we call pop today, T-Boz responded, “We’ve always grown throughout the years and have always had our own sound. That’s what works for us and we don’t have to worry about anybody else.” Adding that “When that stops working, maybe we’ll hang up the towel, but that still works. We have to get into the studio and start feeling how we feel. You have to find yourself first and then you find the path and then you have an album before you know it.”
Chances are fans (who we already determined were all of us) can expect the album to drop sometime around their impending VH1-produced bio-pic, which will arrive next year.
TLC have also announced plans to tour North America, with a holographically rendered Left-Eye Lopez taking the seat of the blood and flesh one.
