Tool Begin Writing Fifth Album

Tool singer Maynard James Keenan has confirmed in an interview that he and the band are currently writing material for what will be the follow-up to 2006 album 10,000 Days.

In an interview with Loudwire, he spoke about the writing process for the new album, explaining he’s allowing space for him to do his thing, and for the rest of the band to write their math rock compositions: “I’m allowing them their space to do what they do, so we’re still in that mode.”

As for a release date for the album, Keenan doesn’t want to get too specific with a time frame “Even if they told me how close they are to being done, I couldn’t tell you because if I say 60 percent, people will start counting down. When it’s done, everyone will know.”

Fans will be sad to hear that touring will be shorter for this album as “Physically, I can’t do it, so that’s not gonna happen. We will tour, but it won’t be the old school dog and pony show of eight months of beating yourself to death.”

He also commented on the possibility of a new Perfect Circle album, mentioning that he and Billy Howerel (Guitar) don’t have much ready yet “We’ve been kicking around some stuff. Nothing’s ready. Until it’s really solid, it doesn’t make any sense to present it, and right now he’s busy with Ashes Divide and I’m doing Puscifer.”
