Tool drummer Danny Carey is too metal for medicine.
The beatlord suffered a medical emergency in the lead up to the band’s headlining slot at this year’s instalment of California’s monster Aftershock festival, and his doctors told him to stay the fark home.
Guitarist Adam Jones has given us the lowdown on what happened via Instagram, explaining that — just hours before the show — Carey was diagnosed with a “serious staph infection”, after doctors first thought he’d been bitten by a venomous spider.
“At first on Friday morning, he was misdiagnosed with a poisonous spider bite on his upper leg,” Jones explains. “Then later Friday night the quarter sized wound was cut opened & drained. By Saturday [Carey] was still aching from head to toe & from what I heard the Local Doctor recommended we skip the show.”
FYI: staph infections are a type of disease caused by staphylococcus bacteria — and can kill you, as Urban Dictionary helpfully notes:
But nevertheless, Carey gave his doctor’s orders the swift Stinkfist, and despite still suffering “headaches & painful joints”, powered through the set anyway.
“I truly have to respect Mr. Danny Carey who played the entire show with a very serious Staph Infection,” Jones says.
