It has been a long, long time between drinks for Tool fans – thirteen years to be exact – but their new album Fear Inoculum is on the horizon. However, the band have revealed that not all fans were waiting patiently, with some apparently giving out death threats to frontman Maynard James Keenan.
In a new interview with Metal Hammer, Tool drummer Danny Carey revealed that Keenan was under immense pressure and detailed some of the nasty experiences he had with fans while Fear Inoculum was being written.
“I felt bad for him,” Carey said.
“He even told me he was getting death threats from these idiots out there. They just have no idea what our work ethic is. These things don’t happen, man. There’s no other record that’s going to sound like this Tool record. What you hear is what you get, and what you get is what it takes to get it done. And it’s not an easy process.”
Bassist Justin Chanceller also spoke about his frustrations with the delay, and gave some insight as to why it took so long to finish Fear Inoculum.
“Sometimes I thought we were nearly there,” he said.
“We’d written an album or we had some songs that were cool, and then we’d dump the whole lot and start again. It was devastating.”
Fear Inoculum is out Friday, 30th August. Listen to the title track below.
