The man who died following the stage collapse at the scheduled Radiohead show in Toronto yesterday has been identified as the band’s 33-year-old drum technician, Scott Johnson. The incident occurred at approximately 4pm local time yesterday while the stage was being set up for the show, which had sold over 40,000 tickets. Johnson was killed and 3 others were reported injured.
Radiohead drummer Phil Selway has issued a statement regarding the death of his drum technician, Scott Johnson:
“We have all been shattered by the loss of Scott Johnson, our friend and colleague. He was a lovely man, always positive, supportive and funny; a highly skilled and valued member of our great road crew. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts and love are with Scott’s family and all those close to him.”
It is still unclear as to what caused the stage to collapse, but a full investigation is currently underway by the provincial Ministry of Labour. A spokesperson told thestar.com that engineering drawings, signed by a professional engineer, have been provided to investigators.
