Chicago instrumentalists TORTOISE have announced an Australian tour for October, playing Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and concluding their tour in Perth at the newly-announced ‘This Is Nowhere’ Festival, alongside Grails, Xiu Xiu and more.
Since their self-titled debut release in 1994, the band have taken their influential blend of rock, dub, dance, jazz, techno and post-rock across the world. Combining a multitude of synths with double-drumming, polished guitar melodies and controlled improvisation, Tortoise’s innovative sound lies somewhere between Can, Minutemen and Miles Davis.
Supports have now been announced for their tour dates, including much-hyped psych-rockers The Laurels, whose album Plains has just been released; post-rockers sleepmakeswaves who have had a jam-packed international touring schedule this year; indie-math-rock outfit Mr Maps, post-punk band Margins; and New War. Fellow Americans Grails will support in Melbourne.
