A lineup poster which allegedly belongs to a 2017 edition of Aussie EDM festival Stereosonic has surfaced online, but the festival’s co-founder has already said it’s “totally fake”.
The poster, which appeared online this week, lists a who’s who of electronic music stars, including hardstyle legends Showtek, Diplo’s dancehall outfit Major Lazer and ex-Swedish House Mafia member Steve Angello.
Before we get to why it’s probably fake, here it is in all its blurry glory:

There are a number of big clues that the poster isn’t the real deal:
- It’s super blurry
- The ‘2017’ has clearly been pasted in
- It lists ‘Queensland’ as a city instead of ‘Brisbane’
- It misspells Steve Angello’s name
Stereosonic co-founder Frank Cotela tells Music Feeds that the poster is “totally fake”.
“We have seen a few of these pop up in the last few days,” he says. “What gives it away — obviously the bad art — but also Melbourne Showgrounds, as they had moved away from doing these events in 2015.”
Interestingly, the poster also names Grammy-winning Sydney producer Flume at a smaller spot on the event’s second stage, to which Cotela says, “Seriously would you have Flume third billing on the second stage? The managers and agent would be having coronaries.”
UPDATE: A second ‘Stereosonic 2017’ poster has appeared online:
The 2016 edition of Stereosonic was cancelled in April last year, with early reports suggesting that Australia’s biggest EDM festival had been scrapped for good.
Festival organisers Totem Onelove Group went on to say that the event was simply going on “hiatus” and would “return in 2017, bigger and better”. Totem Onelove Group is believed to have then gone into administration.
Since then, SFX Entertainment — the American company which now owns Stereosonic — has returned from bankruptcy with a new name, LiveStyle.
The 2015 edition of Stereosonic was marred by the death of a 25-year-old women and a 19-year-old man from suspected drug overdosed.
Stereosonic 2014 was also marred by a huge brawl, which you can relive the footage of, below.
