She’s released a few singles over the last decade or so, but it’s been 13 years since we’ve been blessed with a Missy Elliott album.
That’s right, 2005’s The Cookbook was the last offering we received. Then in 2006 we got RESPECT M.E., a compilation album that featured bangers ‘Work It’ and ‘Get Ur Freak On’.
Now, Missy Elliott is gracing us with a “collection of new songs” called Iconology. Announcing the news via Instagram, she said, “This year has been a tremendous year for me… I am humbled and grateful. THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me!
“So, I have a SURPRISE for you… let’s continue the celebration at midnight tonight… I’m dropping a collection of new songs! Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance! Sincerely, Dr. Melissa “Missy” Elliott #Iconology.”
No stranger to writing a hit, Missy Elliott has been collabing all over the place, this year showing up on Lizzo’s ‘Tempo’. Last year she lent her vocals to Ariana Grande, Kelly Rowland, and Ciara.
Next Monday, 26th August, Missy will receive the MTV Video Vanguard Award and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame earlier this year.
Missy Elliott’s Iconology is out tonight. Listen to Lizzo’s ‘Tempo’ with Missy Elliott below.
