Travis Barker Says Blink-182 Have To “Get Their Shit Together” Before Recording

In a recent interview with OC Weekly, legendary Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has revealed that he will continue to focus on other musical projects until the band “gets their shit together”.

Despite Blink’s bass player Mark Hoppus revealing via Twitter last month that the band were recording demos for their next studio album, Barker has told OC Weekly that the band “haven’t really started on anything new at this point”, and only “have a couple of shows booked”.

When questioned about when the band might continue working on new music, Barker responded:

“Until all three of us get in the same room and other people’s schedules clear, it’s kinda outta my hands. So I keep myself busy in the studio. I’m in the middle of rehearsals with the Transplants for MusInk and we’re recording a covers album. So we’re recording a bunch of our favorite songs. We just recorded “Gratitude” by the Beastie Boys, done Transplants style. Did a bunch of stuff for Bad Lucc, his album’s about to drop, playing a [sic] drums.

“Until my big projects like Blink are happening and everyone gets their shit together, this is what I do. This is what I know, making music and playing drums and creating in the studio. So I have a lot of things to keep me busy in the meantime.”

Barker recently collaborated with hip-hop artist Yelawolf, with whom he created the 2012 EP Psycho White. Check out their track Whistle Dixie below. Barker revealed late last year that he’s also keeping busy by working on his memoir.

Hoppus revealed late last year that the band hope to have a new album out before Reading-Leeds Festival in August 2014. That now looks like a very tight deadline. Blink-182’s latest album, Neighbourhoods, their sixth full-length, was released in 2011.
