Travis Scott has paused a show in Coney Island, New York to ensure the safety of fans. As reported by TMZ, Scott brought his show on Monday, 4th July at Coney Art Walls to a standstill, asking fans who had climbed atop a lighting structure to listen to security directions and come back down.
“Travis is committed to doing his part to ensure events are as safe as possible so that fans can have fun,” a spokesperson for Scott told Pitchfork. “He encouraged fans to listen to requests from security and climb down from the lighting structures so that everyone would be able to safely enjoy last night’s performance.”
Travis Scott Pauses His Coney Island Show
The Coney Island gig was one of Travis Scott’s first headline shows since the tragic events that unfolded during his performance at Astroworld in 2021. Ten people died as a result of a crowd stampede that occurred while Scott (and special guest Drake) were onstage.
Scott is reportedly facing hundreds of law suits relating to the Astroworld disaster. The Houston rapper withdrew from the limelight in the wake of the incident, but has slowly begun to reemerge in recent weeks. In addition to the hundreds of lawsuits lodged against Scott, Astroworld promoters Live Nation have been on the receiving end of legal action.
Scott launched a philanthropic initiative called Project HEAL in the months following the Astroworld incident. He’s reportedly injected millions of dollars into the community-based service, which offers youth programs, mental health care and academic scholarships.
