Travis Scott’s first major public appearance since the 2021 Astroworld disaster will take place at the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday, 15th May.
Scott has been out of the public eye since ten people died as a result of a crowd surge during the rapper’s performance at his own Astroworld festival in Houston, Texas, on Friday, 5th November, 2021. Days after the festival, Scott offered to cover the costs of the victims’ families, but the following month it was reported that half of the families had rejected the offer.
While Scott has kept a low profile ever since, reports emerged in recent weeks of Scott performing at a pre-Oscars house party in Los Angeles and DJing at a Coachella afterparty. A couple of weeks ago, Scott was announced as the headliner of the Primavera Sound festivals in São Paulo, Brazil, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Santiago, Chile, this November.
Billboard announced Scott’s appearance at this weekend’s awards ceremony in a tweet that described the Texan performer as “the first artist to ever have three songs hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in less than a year.”
Diddy (aka Love) is hosting the 2022 Billboard Music Awards. The likes of Burna Boy, Megan Thee Stallion, Rauw Alejandro, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mary J. Blige, Florence and the Machine, Maxwell, Morgan Wallen, Silk Sonic, Ed Sheeran, Becky G, Elle King, and Miranda Lambert are also expected to perform.
