Triple J Confused Almost Everyone By Sneaking Artist Lookalikes Into The ARIAs

Triple j executed a pretty subtle stitch-up at the ARIA Awards in Sydney last night, after recruiting three listeners who looked a hell of a lot like singer-songwriter Meg Mac, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker and Peking Duk‘s Adam Hyde to walk the red carpet.

The prank was part of Breakfast boys Ben & Liam’s not-so-secret plan dubbed ‘Operation Winterfell’. The boys shared a photo of their famous doppelgängers riding in a limo on the way to the ARIAs, and once they rocked up they were almost instantly mistaken for the real deal.

Aaron, who was portraying Kevin Parker, was quickly confused for the real Tame Impala mastermind by Getty Images…

…and was even interviewed by Entertainment Reporter James Tobin on the official Facebook page for ARIAs venue The Star:

And so was the Meg Mac lookalike, Julia! (Watch their interviews right here from around the 1 hour and 27 minute mark)

Meg Mac Julia was even featured on websites like BuzzFeed and Mamamia:

The Adam Hyde lookalike, however, turned out to be a member of local indie band Deep Sea Arcade, who was caught out by the real Adam Hyde.

“A lot of people were fooled by all three,” Ben & Liam told triple j listeners this morning, before Julia revealed that she was “so dusty” after allegedly being allowed into an ARIAs afterparty under her Meg Mac guise.

This year’s ARIA Awards were dominated by Gang Of Youths and Paul Kelly, and featured performances from the likes of Jimmy Barnes (covering AC/DC in tribute to Malcolm Young) and Daryl Braithwaite (who sang ‘The Horses’ with Guy Sebastian and Vera Blue).
