Only one more sleep until that old Australia Day ritual returns – listening to triple j’s Hottest 100 songs of the year as they trickle down into single digits.
And if you’re a sucker for a list like us, some of the station’s most influential presenters have added their two cents to the other 1.5 million votes cast this year, offering up their personal top 10 songs of 2013.
Lindsay ‘The Doctor’ McDougall, Zan Rowe, Matt Okine and Alex Dyson have all delivered lists to news.com.au, providing us with just a little more insight into how people are voting in what’s commonly known as the world’s biggest musical democracy.
The diversity of their lists is impressive, moving from rock to pop, hip-hop and rap to electronic stuff and just about anything with an ‘indie-‘ prefix.
The Preatures massive 2013 hit Is This How You Feel? appears on three of the four lists, with Lorde‘s Royals only getting one mention.
CHVRCHES, Arctic Monkeys and Arcade Fire appear to have strong support with multiple mentions, after all putting out huge releases in 2013.
Only a few of the tracks made the top 10 of the Warmest 100, the predictive list collated by Brisbane-based online marketer Nick Drewe — if you’re not afraid of possible spoilers, you can see their top 10 here.
44 of the final Hottest 100 spots have been taken up by Aussie artists, with 173,658 voters in 169 countries around the world having their say, just under last year’s record of 187,975 voters and 1,516,765 votes.
