Triple J Will Only Play Songs Featuring Female Artists Tomorrow

Tomorrow, in celebration of International Women’s Day, triple j, Double J and triple j Unearthed will only be playing music featuring female artists.

Throughout the day, all three stations will be broadcasting songs that feature either a female vocalist or a prominent female band member, as part of the broadcaster’s annual ‘Girls To The Front’ day.

All three stations will be hosted by a talented squad of female presenters, while female musos will be discussing their favourite female artists throughout the day, with input from the likes of Ali Barter, Amy Shark, Camp Cope, Elliphant, Gordi, The Jezabels’ Hayley Mary, Julia Stone and Kučka.

Triple j‘s daily programs will be led by ladies all day, with Veronica Milsom & Alex Lee on ‘Breakfast’; Zan Rowe on ‘Mornings’; Gen Fricker at ‘Lunch’; Coda Conduct, Sally Coleman & Erica Mallett on ‘Drive’; Sarah McVeigh hosting ‘Hack’; Linda Marigliano on ‘Good Nights’; Bridget Hustwaite on ‘Home & Hosed’; and a special ‘Short.Fast.Loud.’ with Pagan frontwoman Nikki Bruman.

Triple j Unearthed will also host a bunch of interviews with female artists, as part of a segment called ‘Seven Important New Voices in Australian Music’. The station will also be broadcasting independent music made by women throughout the day.

Over on Double J, Myf Warhurst will be joined by a list of all-female guests, including Sydney outfit All Our Exes Live In Texas. Muso and Milk Records boss Jen Cloher will be chatting, while a curated soundtrack will feature songs selected by the likes of Bikini Kill’s Kathleen Hannah, Mia Dyson, Kasey Chambers, Laura Marling, Holly Throsby, The Clouds and Katy Steele.

To mark International Women’s Day, triple j‘s ‘Hack’ program has also looked into the current representation of women in the Australian music industry, and has discovered that festival lineups, award nominations, earnings and radio play are still very much male-dominated.

Triple j marked International Women’s Day in a similar way last year, with an all-female lineup of hosts, interviews with female artists and music from female artists.
