UPDATE: Here’s The Winner Of Triple J’s Hottest 100 Of 2021
Original Story: It’s that time of the summer. Despite yet another year of pandemic living, 2021 produced some incredible music from both local and international acts. As we kick off another trip ’round the sun, triple j will be counting down the 100 best songs from the year that was.
Last year saw Glass Animals take out the number one spot with their dreamland mega-hit ‘Heat Waves’. It was a great showing for local acts as well, with Spacey Jane, Flume, Ball Park Music, Tame Impala, G Flip, The Jungle Giants and Hilltop Hoods all placing within the top 10 (amongst, naturally, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘WAP’ and Billie Eilish’s ‘Therefore I Am’.)
So, who’ll take out the top slot? It’s been theorised by the folks over at 100 Warm Tunas that the Wiggles – that’s right – could be this year’s winners thanks to their cover of Tame Impala’s ‘Elephant’ for Like a Version last year, with Gang of Youths, The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber, Olivia Rodrigo and Spacey Jane all hotly-tipped to place high on the chart.
