Trophy Eyes Return With Huge Singalong Anthem ‘You Can Count On Me’, Announce New Album

Trophy Eyes have come roaring back with a huge, theatrical, autobiographical ripper of a choon about their drug-dealer m8s (sort-of), dubbed ‘You Can Count On Me’.

“Some of my friends sell drugs / but I just sell sad songs,” frontman John Floreani chants along in the *very* singable chorus of the song, which feels like it was musically inspired by equal parts Queen and Gang Of Youths? Either way, it’s definitely a winning cocktail.

Floreani explains: “In many ways, ‘You Can Count on Me’ is a push back – a voice for those who choose not to defend themselves against the growing torch and pitchfork mentality that encircles performers in the era of modern music”.

“Artists used to be a respected breed,” he continues. “With the uprising of social media, it’s as if listeners think they know us. They follow our every move and make judgments on our character based on a photo they may have seen, or a statement someone may have made.”

The single is the first to be sliced off the Newy lads’ brand spanking new album, dubbed The American Dream, which it’s just been announced will arrive on August 3rd.

“This record is about my life in present time and a reflection on who I was and how I got here,” Floreani explains of the band’s coming-of-age 3rd LP.

“As much of the other Trophy Eyes works have been the hate, violence, addiction and heartbreak I fought so desperately to leave behind, this record is about shedding one’s past, transitioning from boy to man, making a home and wanting nothing more in life than to sit and enjoy the silence.”

You might be able to catch John & co busting out some of their new LP cuts live in Sydney when they play a free show at Frankies Pizza By The Slice with our good mates The Dead Love this Sunday night.
