Twenty One Pilots Festival Set Cut Short Over “Safety” Concerns

Schizoid Pop duo twenty one pilots have proven to be too real for the man over the weekend at BBC 1 Radio’s Big Weekend festival. The pair’s set was suddenly cut short due to what organisers described as “safety concerns” with video from the night (below) kinda, sorta backing that up.

Frontman Tyler Joseph has a penchant for climbing tall, oft-unstable staging equipment. The act is adored by their intimidating fan base, but as footage from the Big Weekend shows, a huge, goddamn hurricane of lawsuits waiting to happen for anyone with liability.

In the footage it appears that Tyler Joseph’s microphone was cut off as he scaled the scaffolding while his somewhat confused bandmate Josh Dun ceases playing the drums.

“The safety of our artists is always our first priority,” BBC Radio 1 later wrote on Twitter. “Sadly we felt there was a risk & had to cut @twentyonepilots short. We’re sad too.”

Fans have berated the broadcaster’s decision for ending the performance during the wind-down of huge fan favourite Car Radio. “The world isn’t ready for twenty one pilots just yet” one such fan cried, with others pointing out, and validly so, that so called ‘safety concerns’ are a regular part of the show.

To their credit, the boys copped it like champs, walking to the stage and taking a bow.

Twenty One Pilots will be returning to Australian shores next year for a headline run of our arenas. Damn…there are some tall friggin things to climb at arenas…
