Tyler The Creator Says Odd Future Is “No More”

Odd Future‘s head-honcho Tyler, The Creator has taken to Twitter and looks to have declared the end of the rap-group as it was once known.

In a seemingly nostalgic state-of-mind, the rapper posted a picture of the crew in 2010 on Instagram, which included Earl Sweatshirt and Frank Ocean before tweeting, “damn going threw the old golf wang photos shit. i miss my friends alot. 5 years later isnt that long but wow soooo much has happened.”

He followed that up with, “although its no more, those 7 letters are forever.”

While he doesn’t specify, it’s likely that those seven letters are OFWGKTA which stands for Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All – the full name of the rap collective.

Tyler has just released his third LP Cherry Bomb which was his first album not to feature anybody from the Odd Future crew. Despite that, he still released the album via Odd Future records and is managed by Odd Future’s longtime manager Christian Clancy.

Once an integral member of the crew, Earl Sweatshirt released his sophomore record I Don’t Like Shit I Don’t Go Outside this year, which similarly had no Odd Future collaborations and, like his debut, was released by Columbia Records.

In an interview with The Fader earlier this year, Tyler said about Sweatshirt, “We just aren’t as close as we were. It’s kind of weird, but I’m aware and smart enough to know, okay, shit changes.”

“My close circle of friends has changed in the past year,” he also said.

Tyler released Golf Media this year – his own multimedia app, separate to the Odd Future brand. He also runs his own clothing brand called Golf Wang.

He’s set to tour Australia in September, while Earl Sweatshirt will be here for Splendour in the Grass and his three additional sideshows this July.

UPDATE 29/05/15: Tyler, The Creator has taken back to Twitter having seemingly woken up to a barrage of news reports about Odd Future’s non-future. He still hasn’t quite confirmed the reports though, writing both “What the hell did I wake up to…It’s crazy how one tweet can stir so much” and then “But that elephant it big as fuck [let’s] be honest”.

Meanwhile it looks like Earl Sweatshirt is pretty much ready to move on from all thing Odd Future, writing that he has, “no sympathy for male virgins who’re in their feelings about tyler pointing out and solidifying the obvious.” Ouch. See the new tweets below.
