A baker’s dozen of new acts has been added to the already robust lineup for the 2015 Reading and Leeds festival. Brit-hipsters Mumford & Sons will join Metallica as the bonanza’s second headliners, with Royal Blood, Bastille and Catfish & The Bottlemen bringing up the rear.
The latest announcement is rounded out by Deadmau5, BBC Sound of 2015 winner Years & Years and nominees Wolf Alice, Rebel Sound feat. Chase & Staus, Rage, David Rodigan and Shy FX, Pretty Vicious, Jack Garratt and Hannah Wants. A third round of bands, including an additional headliner, will be named in the near future.
Mumford & Sons will be gracing the festival’s Main Stage for the first time ever, after coming off a recent hiatus. In October last year, it was reported that they were back in the studio with Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford.
They were recently announced to play this year’s epic Bonaroo Music and Arts Festival in the US, though this is their first UK show announced since their hiatus.
“Just announced: Mumford & Sons are headlining at Reading & Leeds 2015! #RANDL2015” the band posted on Twitter this morning.
But not everyone seems to be as excited about the group’s headlining slot as they are, with many internet warriors expressing their distaste for the Reading and Leeds announcement via social media (check out some of the strongly worded tweets, below).
Festival boss Melvin Benn has said the 2015 lineup “will feature the absolute best of rock, indie, dance and hip hop, and will only add to the amazing atmosphere that make Reading & Leeds so special”.
