US Students Chant Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Alright’ At Police Brutality Rally

Earlier this month, FOX News anchor Geraldo Rivera said rappers like Kendrick Lamar have “done more damage to young African-Americans than racism”, but Cleveland State University students protesting against police brutality don’t agree, and have chanted Lamar’s song Alright after an alleged act of such brutality.

As Consequence Of Sound notes, footage has emerged of protestors leaving a Black Lives Matter conference and using Lamar’s single as their anthem.

The video was captured after police reportedly detained a 14-year-old boy for alleged public intoxication. Witnesses allege officers slammed the teenager to the ground, and when a crowd formed to block a police car’s path, officers reportedly used pepper spray on several people.

The group’s use of Alright comes in light of FOX News’ suggestion that the song’s lyrics send “the wrong message”.

Lamar responded to FOX News‘ bulletin earlier this month, saying, “How can you take a song that’s about hope and turn it into hatred? The overall message is ‘We’re gonna be alright.’ It’s not the message of ‘I wanna kill people.’”
