Melbourne Is Getting Its First Drive-In Concert Venue

Untitled Group have announced The Drive-In, Victoria’s first drive-in live concert venue. The pop-up precinct, which will be located in the bowling lanes at Flemington Racecourse, will aim to “reignite” the state’s live arts industry in the wake of COVID-19 restrictions being put in place.

Curated by the team behind festivals like Beyond the Valley, Ability Fest, Grapevine Gathering and Wildlands, the first month of music programming for the space is set to be announced tomorrow (Tuesday, 16th June), and will include “12 large-scale concert events”. Each of these events is set to create 200 jobs within the live entertainment sector. A movie and comedy night programme is set to follow.

Per a press release, events at the drive-in venue “will hold true to a traditional concert experience with the same calibre of production that you’d expect from any major music event.” The raised festival stage will feature large viewing screens, and the site will be fully accessible.

Untitled Group say they’ve collaborated with health professional for event management plans, and each event will adhere to appropriate social distancing measures to ensure safety.

As you might expect, all shows will have a strictly limited capacity. Head to The Drive-In’s official website here for more information.
