Journalist, academic and co-host of The Project, Waleed Aly, has been captured on video achieving temporary rock god status while performing as part of a supergroup with singer-songwriter Dan Sultan and Brisbane rock outfit Regurgitator at Victoria’s annual Aussie rules football charity event the Reclink Community Cup.
Footage of the makeshift supergroup performing at the Community Cup in Elsternwick sees Aly nail a wailing guitar solo on a cover of Prince’s Purple Rain, while the group also perform the Regurgitator track The Song Formerly Known As. Catch video and photos from the event, below.
Aly, who plays guitar and saxophone and still performs in a band in his spare time, famously dropped an A+ Pink Floyd guitar solo at the 2015 Walkley Awards, which immediately established him as one of the most over-talented human beings on planet earth.
The Reclink Community Cup centres around an annual football game which puts musicians up against community radio broadcasters. The event raises funds for Reclink Australia, which provides and promotes sport and art programs for people experiencing disadvantage.
