DJ wunderkind Black Summer isn’t yet old enough to watch most movies without parental guidance, but that hasn’t stopped him from dropping beats in a fist-pumping live debut at Groovin The Moo Canberra in front of a 10,000-strong crowd.
11-year-old EDM wizard Rhys Toms performed a 10-minute set during a surprise cameo in the Moolin Rouge tent’s DJ booth at the ACT leg of the travelling festival, at the behest of triple j’s Zan Rowe.
“I invited Black Summer up to drop some bangers this arvo at @groovinthemoo today,” the announcer posted on her Instagram. “He nailed it. What a lord.”
Black Summer’s impromptu cameo came sandwiched between San Cisco and Carmada in the middle of the festival’s programme, and saw the whiz kid bust out a range of tunes, including his original track Toxic Niravana (below).
“Not bad for a first gig,” the tween beat-dropper wrote on his official Facebook page.
The young gun producer was first discovered by triple j last month, via their Unearthed platform, much to the sudden feeling of inadequacy of everyone else in the music industry.
Check out footage of his killer live debut at Groovin The Moo Canberra, below.
