Melbourne indie-poppers Alpine have taken to the triple j studios to lay down a cover of singer-songwriter Ben Lee‘s 1998 breakout single Cigarettes Will Kill You for this week’s Like A Version.
Alpine’s Ben Lee cover comes complete with a banjo and some very pretty tones from co-vocalists Phoebe and Lou, staying true to the original’s bittersweet vibes. Proving just how spot on the cover is, Lee himself has since taken to Twitter to say he is “loving” Alpine’s version of the track.
While in the triple j studio, the Alpine crew also performed their original track Foolish, which appears on their impressive second album, Yuck. Catch both performances in full, below.
Alpine are set to perform at Port Macquarie’s Festival Of The Sun this December, before taking to the stage at Falls Festival and Southbound festivals over New Year’s, with an appearance at Melbourne’s Sugar Mountain lined up for January.
