As well as honouring Australia’s best musical talent, this year’s APRA music awards ceremony was basically like one giant Like A Version orgy.
The gala bore witnesses to a range of the nation’s best and brightest artists covering each others’ songs, including those of the night’s biggest winners, Tame Impala and Courtney Barnett.
San Cisco tried their hand at Barnett’s Pedestrian At Best while The Delta Riggs had a crack at Tame Impala’s Currents hit Let It Happen.
Also during the festivities, The Living End took on Cold Chisel‘s classic Aussie BBQ singalong Khe Sanh in honour of the veteran rockers winning the Outstanding Services to Australian Music award, Shannon Noll’s arch nemesis Guy Sebastian made a cameo to cover Aussie blues legend C.W. Stoneking’s tune The Zombie, and Gang of Youths teamed up with Montaigne to cover Jarryd James’ hit, Do You Remember.
Another standout was Aussie acid-jazz veterans D.I.G. celebrating their 25th anniversary as a group with a rendition of Birds Of Tokyo’s Anchor featuring Ngaiire and newly discovered 13-year-old Sydney-based singer-songwriter, Ruel.
While Urthboy performed his own song Daughter Of Light with the help of guest vocalists Kira Puru, Bertie Blackman and an entire freaking choir.
And the best part?
