Anyone who has been following Blink-182 knows that The Cure‘s hit single Boy’s Don’t Cry is a tried and tested entry in the band’s repertoire. During a recent in-studio performance for French radio station Oui FM, Blink have attempted to tackle the cover with new guitarist Matt Skiba and, well… we just hope they’re doing okay now.
Following an acoustic rendition of their hit Bored To Death, Mark Hoppus and Skiba attempted The Cure classic, but the acoustic gods were not smiling upon them. Skiba struggled through the intro, hitting some fairly raw notes, invoking a delayed laugh from Hoppus, which is clearly tinged with cringe.
Leading the charge vocally, Hoppus just doesn’t look present in the moment at all, perhaps already pondering what to order for room service once he’s back at the accom.
The band did themselves no favours by performing it so perfectly in the past, too. We hate to say it, but original guitarist Tom Delonge didn’t seem to have any issues. At one point ,the band even performed the track alongside The Cure’s Robert Smith. Additional fun fact — Smith provided his guest vocals to Blink’s self-titled album track All Of This — but it’s hard to gauge what he would think of Blink’s latest rendition of Boys Don’t Cry.
