Watch Childish Gambino Cover Tamia’s ’90s Jam ‘So Into You’ For ‘Like A Version’

Rapper, actor, comedian, producer, director and man of many talents Donald Glover, best known under his rap pseudonym Childish Gambino, has stepped into the triple j studios to drop a super-smooth cover of Tamia’s ’90s jam So Into You for Like A Version.

Before performing So Into You, Gambino described the 1998 single as “a very cool, sexy song” which was a favourite from his younger years, especially with the ladies.

Currently touring the country as part of Listen Out 2015, Gambino performed the song backed by some soulful keyboard work, with his vocals sitting on top some suitably downtempo finger-clicking.

While in the triple j studio, Gambino also performed his hit single Sober, which appears on his 2014 Kauai EP, and which was actually covered by Adelaide singer-songwriter Jesse Davidson on Like A Version in April this year.

This triple j performance follows a disastrous one for Gambino, who was booed by Aussie fans at his Listen Out sideshow at Newcastle’s Cambridge Hotel last night, with some concertgoers taking to social media to call his brief performance “unprofessional” and “very disappointing”.

Gambino also pulled out of his scheduled Listen Out Canberra sideshow on the same day as his Newcastle show, but the gig is set to take place tonight with replacement act Alison Wonderland filling in.

Catch both of Gambino’s Like A Version performances in full, below. The rapper performs at Listen Out in Sydney and Brisbane over the weekend.
